We train undergraduate nurses and collaborate with national and international partners in conducting researches to improve evidence based practice. Our mission is to nurture the next generation of compassionate and competent nurses and midwives. Together, we're dedicated to advancing maternal and child health within our community and beyond. We work towards creating a healthier and brighter future for mothers and children.

The Department is in charge of undergraduate courses including Midwifery, Community Health Nursing, Nursing Research, Leadership Management and Entrepreneurship, ICT and Communication skills, Applied Research field work, Community Health Field, Midwifery Practice.

Prof. Rose Mjawa Laisser

DEAN SCHOOL OF NURSING

Rose M Laisser is a Dean at the Archibishop Antony mayala school of Nursing CUHAS. She has been working as a nurse and a midwife in Tanzania since 1977. She started her career in one of the regional hospitals in northern Tanzania as an RN and RM. In 1979, she moved to a national hospital in the capital city, Dar es Salaam, working within an obstetric theatre for five years. In 1994, Rose decided to join a teacher training course. During the teacher training her passion for midwifery grew , and all her assignments were related to midwifery, for example, she developed a curriculum for a midwifery course for advance midwifery training. Ms.Lemi R. Nyanda

ssistant Lecturer

Lemi R. Nyanda is a midwife specialist working at CUHAS as Assistant Lecturer. She hold the Diploma of Nursing and Midwife from St Gaspar School of Nursing Itigi-Singida. Bachelor Degree of Nursing Education at Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), Masters Degree of Science in Nursing Midwifery from The University of Dodoma (UDOM). She has an experiences of teaching Diploma student Nurses and Midwife for more than 10 years outside CUHAS. To date she has taught students on Nursing Research and Midwifery. She has also mentored undergraduate students in community field and midwifery practices. However, she has supervised research not less than 20 undergraduate students at CUHAS.

Mr.Magwa Kiyumbi

Assistant Lecturer

He is specialized in midwifery, leadership and public health. He also deals with occupational health and safety including food safety management system with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP). Magwa believes that, no mother or child should die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. He is currently serving as assistant lecturer at Catholic university of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS) in the department of Community Maternal and Child health. He has teaching experience in different levels of training institutions in Tanzania for over 20 years. He also supervises undergraduate students on their researches and community projects. He worked with Pwani region team with KOFIH project for mentorship on maternal and child health. His research interest is in the areas of maternal and child health, clinical nursing, reproductive and health promotion.

Ms.Livuka Nsemwa

Assistant Lecturer and Ag. Head of Community Maternal & Child Health department

A dedicated midwife and assistant lecturer at the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences, with an experience of more than 10 years in nursing and midwifery profession. She earned her BSc. in Nursing in 2010 and MSc. in Midwifery and Women's Health in 2019 from MUHAS. Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine under the NHIR Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Unit studentship. Livuka specializes in maternal and child health and medical education. Committed to excellence in both midwifery and academia, she actively collaborates with the Lugina African Midwives Research Network (LAMRN) to advance midwifery knowledge in Africa through research. As a member of the THET-Health Professional Educator Group, and grant awardee of Community of Young Research Peers (CYRP), she contributes to a consortium dedicated to transforming health professions education in Tanzania. Livuka's overarching goal is to make a lasting impact on midwifery and healthcare education, ultimately enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities across Africa.

Mr.Anna S.Pallangyo
