HEPI-THET PROJECT
THET is a five-year project (2018–2023) led by MUHAS and funded by Fogarty under the Health-Professional Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI) program. The project implemented innovative approaches to enhance the quality of medical and nursing education and research, with a special focus on HIV/AIDS, by:
- Creating and adopting common training curricula for medicine and nursing education in Tanzania to ensure graduates from different institutions attain comparable quality and common competencies.
- Enhancing the academic environment to attract and retain early-career faculty through mentorship in innovative, competency-based skills development and collaborative research portfolio building.
- Improving communication with key stakeholders, including tracking graduates, to establish and sustain a robust health-sector graduate database in Tanzania.
- Ensuring that, by the end of the five-year project, nursing and medical education—starting with THET partner institutions—utilizes new curricula that produce graduates with common clinical and research competencies, thereby addressing disease burden and human resource challenges in the country.
